Winter to Spring Transitional Wardrobe Solution for NYC

10 clothing items for 10 outfits: A Mini-Capsule Wardrobe for Early Spring

I was late to the Spring 10X10 wardrobe challenge that many bloggers and fashionistas were participating in on Instagram. Still, I’m in the need to build a winter to spring transitional mini-capsule to help myself get dressed quickly for NYC’s tricky early spring, so here are my 10 items:

I like staying on the warmer side for spring. You may know that the temperature in NYC’s April/May can range from high 30F to high 80F, and I try to make this mini-capsule pretty AND practical. The question is: how do I uplift the whole outfit while staying warm enough for the lingering winter-like cold air?

For my 10-item mini-capsule, I have:

  • 3 Tops

Long sleeves: Eileen Fisher – Striped Top, size XS, old, similar style here

3/4 sleeves:  Zara – White Overlay Top, size S, old

Short sleeves: H&M – Cotton Tee Jungle Cheetah, size XS, old

  • 3 Bottoms

Skinny pants: LOFT – Ponte Leggings, size 2P, my old version here, current version here

Loose pants: Levi’s – Belted Denim Culottes, size 25, bought new recently at Levi’s in SoHo

Skirt: Ecoleco (Shanghainese eco-friendly brand) – Wool Blend Skirt, one size, old

  • 1 Dress

Casual Dress: Buffalo Exchange (Zara) – 3/4 sleeves dress (fits like long sleeves on me), size S

  • 3 Outerwear/Layering

Cardigan: The RealReal (DVF) – Wool Sweater Jacket, Dark Green, size Petite

Lightweight Trench: Crossroads Trading Co. (Goodnight Macaroon) – Salmon Pink, size M (fits like over-sized style on me)

Midweight Coat: The RealReal (ZAC Zac Posen) – Wool Blend Convertible Coat, Black, size 2, detachable hood and bottom half of the coat

Next week, I will start showing the outfits I put together from this mini-capsule. I can actually make more than 10 outfits out of this capsule wardrobe but will show the best 10 along the way.

Thank you for reading and I hope this post sparked some ideas to solve your winter to spring transitional dilemma.
